Hello

After working my way through a wide variety of jobs for almost 20 years, I went back to school and began my counseling career. I figured out that kind people and deep thinkers are my tribe, and my brain loves finding solutions to complex, abstract problems. Therefore, being a therapist is my jam.

Over the years I've seen how powerful counseling can be, and how even small changes can make a huge difference and bring my clients incredible relief. I love what I do, and I’m honored my clients choose me to walk alongside them.

I live in Bloomington, MN, where I love to spend time with my family, friends, and the best dog in the world. I love God, nature views, occasional house projects, and learning more about psychology and history. And perhaps some sitcom classics - Seinfeld, Everybody Loves Raymond, and The Office.

Also, I'm genuinely excited you’re here because it means you’re exploring ways to grow and love your life!

Hi, I'm Angie

My Approach

Talking through your circumstances, mindset, emotions, and relationships can bring powerful, positive change. My approach to counseling is genuine and empathetic, with a focus on bringing clarity, hope, and increased perspective to the client. I believe we are all trying to understand ourselves better, feel comfortable in our own skin, and find connection and understanding in our relationships and the world around us. I've worked with clients dealing with a variety of issues - Anxiety, Depression, Grief, Transitions, Stress/Mental Load, OCD, and Relationship Conflicts - but I'm especially passionate about my work with clients who have experienced trauma/PTSD, including:

  • Veterans and military personnel

  • First responders and those in helping professions

  • Those who've experinced abuse.

Education

I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. My background includes in-home/community-based care for families, adults, adolescents, and children, as well as several years of offering individual therapy in an office setting. I also have a background in holistic health and nutrition, which lends to my holistic counseling approach, meaning many parts - emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical health - make up the whole.

Technical Stuff

My sessions are typically 55 minutes and I can meet with clients in my office in Burnsville or online. I use Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Gestalt Therapy in my approach. These theories emphasize client strengths, and build mental and emotional awareness to generate more resilience. They are also rooted in the idea that we solve unfinished business from the past by addressing current struggles and aiming at our goals for the future. In other words, the client decides where work is needed, we build on what is already working, and we use our past as a tool for future solutions.
